We have been operating a dispensary at the Health Centre in Crickhowell since April 2006. This service has proved a great success and has been very well received by those patients who have registered with us as dispensing patients.

Under the regulations, this service is only available to those patients who live more than a mile (as the crow flies) from both the Health Centre and their nearest local chemist, and who are deemed to be in a rural location.

For these patients, it will no longer be necessary for them to take their prescription to a pharmacist to be dispensed, nor to wait whilst it is prepared. When you see one of our GPs and he/she believes that you need a medicine to treat your problem, then the GP will be able to send an instruction to our dispensary, where your medication will be prepared there and then, to be taken with you as you leave the surgery.

When you leave a request for a regular repeat prescription, instead of receiving a prescription, your medicines will be waiting for collection at the surgery (5 working days notice of your request will still be required). If, however, you have an appointment with one of the doctors after the dispensary has been closed and the doctor prescribes medication for you, he/she will be able to dispense the medication, if we have it in stock.

Similarly, if your medication has been prepared but you have been unable to collect it before the dispensary closing time, one of our receptionists will be able get it for you.

The dispensary opening times are:

• 09:15 – 17:30 – Closed during the hours of 12.30-1.30 everyday.

Prescription Collections

Crickhowell Group Practice is working with Accessibility Powys to support patients in the local community who are unable to attend to collect their dispensed medication.

Patients wishing to use this service are to contact the group on:

• 07498 833 913 – between 09:00 – 17:00

You will be asked to supply some information to the group to assist in the collection.
